2019: All Score Urbana at Urbana High School

All Score Urbana at Urbana High School

All Score Urbana and Urbana High School Orchestras teamed up for a twelve-class program about music composition. As part of meeting students where they were in their musical journey, compositional ideas were approached through the students’ experiences playing string instruments. A mixture of interactive group activities and break out sessions on individual projects, resulted in the performance and recording of 60 new student works across the two ensembles.

Another recurring theme of the program was learning about the many kinds of composers in Champaign-Urban and beyond. Guests included Amsterdam-based Castle of Our Skins Co-Founder Anthony R. Green, SUNY Potsdam music composition professor Dr. Ivette Herryman Rodriguez, and UIUC Teaching Assistant Professor Composition-Theory/Assistant Director of New Music on the Point Dr. Kerrith Livengood,
